ROCKFORD, MI - Wolverine World Wide CEO Blake Krueger says the Rockford footwear company's international reach makes today's major acquisition of its competition a "perfect fit."
In an interview on CNBC, Krueger answers questions about Wolverine teaming up with two equity investment firms on a $2 billion buy of Collective Brands, the parent of company of Payless ShoeSource and Stride Rite chains stores, and four brands.
Under the deal, Wolverine pays $1.2 billion to acquire the wholesale and retail operations of the company's four brands: Sperry Top-Sider, Saucony, Stride Rite and Keds.

“We’ve been looking at these brands for some time," said Krueger. "It’s a perfect fit for our company."
Krueger says the company's international distribution network will help expand the global reach of the new brands that are primarily sold in the U.S.
When asked about which of the four brands he was excited about acquiring, Krueger said Sperry Top-Siders which is a competitor to its own upscale boat shoe, Sebago.
